Meet the Wells Family

“I’ve always said that I want to leave my kids something. When I pass, they will still have a place to call home.”

April’s resilience shines through every challenge she faces, from crowded living conditions to chasing her dreams—all for the sake of her boys.

Right now, April, Chance and Chase are living with her parents, sister and niece in a pretty packed house. Seven people under one roof is a tight squeeze—the boys share a room, and April is living in the unfinished basement. It’s far from easy, but this is what’s driving April to find something better for her family.

After a lifetime of waiting, April knows that now is the right time to take that leap toward a brighter future. April dreams of giving her boys a stable, comfortable home where they can each have their own space to grow. And for herself, this means she can focus on finishing her degree and stepping into her dream career. April is only three classes away from earning her Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Cleveland State and she’s determined to make it happen, despite all the challenges.

When she graduated high school, she was also raising Chance, who was just nine months old. Imagine that: juggling school and a baby. It was a tough time, but she had her mom by her side, who wasn’t just a parent, but her closest friend. That support was everything to her.

Those strong family bonds have really shaped who April is today. They’ve kept her committed to her boys and their future, no matter the obstacles.

Now, April is excited about starting this new chapter with Habitat. She can’t wait for the day when she and her sons can sit together at the kitchen table, each working on their homework. It’s a simple but powerful dream: having their own space where they can all focus and support each other, making their home a place where they can truly thrive.
