Barker Family
Habitat has not only provided them with a roof over their heads but also a sanctuary where they could flourish and thrive together as a family.
"I'd do anything for my babies," says Jerra with a radiant smile. "Having a home of our own means the world to us." The family has finally moved into their forever home in the Morelock Meadows subdivision, a dream come true after years of uncertainty.
Gone are the days of cramped living in a duplex with plumbing issues, where Ki and Everlee shared a bedroom. Now, they each have their own space to thrive and explore. Ki, the ever-doting big brother, is passionate about weather, trains, and building with K’Nex toys. Jerra is happy he has the space to let his imagination run wild. As for Everlee, she continues to twirl and laugh, cherishing her newfound freedom to dance and giggle to her heart's content.
Weekends are now filled with even more joy and excitement, whether it is attending church or or having the space for Ki and Everlee to explore their passions. Jerra has a few family members to lean on for support, which is a blessing to her. However, her relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ and her church "The Dwelling Place" has been a constant place of support for her and her children for the past eight years. “They all know my story, my kid’s story, and I could not do life without them,” Jerra said. “A woman I go to church with told me about Habitat and told me to go for it. Asking for help is a big lesson I am learning and it started there.”
Despite the demands of her job at Bradley EMS, where she works as an EMS Clerical, Jerra holds onto her dream, of furthering her education to become an RN specializing in Labor & Delivery or the NICU. And amidst her busy schedule, she finds solace in simple pleasures like gardening and daily devotionals with her beloved children.
The move to Morelock Meadows has brought a newfound sense of stability and hope to their lives. With their own space to garden and grow, they embrace each day with gratitude and anticipation. Jerra is determined to set a shining example for her children, showing them the power of resilience, faith, and the beauty of asking for help when needed.
As they settle into their new home, Jerra can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude. Their journey with Habitat has not only provided them with a roof over their heads but also a sanctuary where they could flourish and thrive together as a family.
