Chief Executive Officer (Cleveland, TN):

Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating affordable homeownership opportunities for families in the Cleveland, TN area. We bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope, transforming lives through the power of affordable housing.

Job Summary:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the primary leader, visionary, and spokesperson for Habitat for Humanity of Cleveland. The CEO will drive the organization’s mission, ensure strategic alignment with Habitat for Humanity International’s goals, and provide operational, financial, and leadership guidance. The CEO will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, community partners, and volunteers to expand affordable housing in the community and to further Habitat’s mission. This role requires a strong leader with a passion for nonprofit work, a commitment to affordable housing, and the ability to inspire and engage a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans in partnership with the Board of Directors to further Habitat Cleveland’s mission and goals.

  • Provide visionary leadership to adapt to the changing needs of the community and the housing sector.

  • Ensure the organization’s strategic goals align with Habitat for Humanity International's standards.

Fundraising and Resource Development:

  • Lead resource development efforts, including fundraising campaigns, donor cultivation, grant writing, and community partnerships.

  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners to secure sustainable funding for projects.

  • Represent the organization at public events, networking opportunities, and in the media to enhance Habitat Cleveland's visibility and reputation.

Operational Oversight:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including home construction projects, financial management, and program development.

  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and Habitat International standards and guidelines.

  • Promote a safe and inclusive work environment and ensure all safety standards are met on Habitat project sites.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and financial stability.

  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular updates to the Board of Directors.

  • Ensure accountability and transparency in all financial matters, including fundraising, grant management, and reporting.

Community and Partner Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary ambassador of Habitat Cleveland, fostering strong relationships with community leaders, government officials, donors, and volunteers.

  • Advocate for affordable housing policies and initiatives at the local and regional levels.

  • Build partnerships with other organizations, groups, and stakeholders to expand impact.

Board Relations:

  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, providing them with regular updates, insights, and recommendations.

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of board members.

  • Facilitate effective governance practices to support board members in fulfilling responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

  • Proven track record in strategic planning, fundraising, and financial management.

  • Strong knowledge of affordable housing and familiarity with Habitat’s mission and programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build collaborative relationships.

  • Experience working with boards of directors, government officials, community leaders, and volunteers.

  • Ability to lead and inspire a dedicated team, while fostering a culture of respect, accountability, and mission alignment.
