Siler Family

Doranda Siler is a single mother of four children, Xavier, RaShun, Reginald, and Parish. She has taken pride in providing for her children on her own and keeping her family above water. However, Doranda would love the opportunity to do more for her family.

Doranda was raised by her grandmother before her mother began getting better. At the age of 14, Doranda’s family moved into a habitat home when her mother applied and was accepted into the program. “It helped my family at the time so much and I want to do the same for my kids,” said Doranda. “Life was great at the time.” Doranda at the time shared a bedroom with her sister and attended Cleveland High School. Their family was thrilled to have a home to call theirs. Now, Doranda is working towards giving her own family that same feeling.

Doranda has worked relentlessly to provide for her kids and offer them a more stable life. Despite the family being close to one another, their housing situation is anything but ideal. Currently, the family lives in a three-bedroom home. All three of her sons share one room. “Reginald wrestles at his high school, RaShun loves playing video games and Xavier is still figuring out what he wants to do since he graduated,” shared Doranda. “Parish is still finding her place too at high school. She is so easygoing compared to my boys.”

Doranda's family has always been close and there for one another despite all of the hardships. "I was raised by my grandmother before we got our own habitat home, and I've worked to provide my kids a better life. I am happy to see some of my work pay off," shared Doranda. For Doranda giving her kids stability and a good life is her biggest goal. With the new habitat home on the horizon, the goals seem reachable. "You know I am a bit excited to maybe work in the yard a bit outside and know my kids won't be lonely," shared Doranda. "It is just awesome."
