Barker Family

"I'd do anything for my babies," shared Jerra. "I love my family and am so thrilled to have this chance to give them a home." The family is living in a duplex with plumbing issues while Ki and Everlee are sharing a bedroom. Jerra has looked into different housing options, however, she cannot afford it as a single mother due to rising housing costs. “I know it is hard on Ki not to have his own space,” shared Jerra. “Blessed to have what we need, but I’d love the opportunity to give my kids more.”

Ki is one of the best big brothers ever, according to Jerra. He loves following the weather, playing with trains, and building with K’Nex toys. She would love him to have his own space to expand on his imagination. Everlee loves her big brother, she also loves to dance and laugh. You can find the family on the weekends at church or on the soccer field cheering Ki on. “When I had Everlee, I was worried about Ki adjusting but he is the best big brother anyone could ask for,” shared Jerra. “He is just so kind, calm, and patient.”

Currently, Jerra works at Bradley EMS as an EMS Clerical. She loves the people she works with but her dreams are to go to school and be an RN for Labor & Delivery or the NICU. Between long shifts and being a full-time mom, she is very connected with her church, trying her hand at gardening and doing daily devotionals with her children.

Jerra has a few family members to lean on for support, which is a blessing to her. However, her relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ and her church "The Dwelling Place" has been a constant place of support for her and her children for the past eight years. “They all know my story, my kid’s story, and I could not do life without them,” Jerra said. “A woman I go to church with told me about Habitat and told me to go for it. Asking for help is a big lesson I am learning and it started there.”

Jerra is excited about starting the process of owning a Habitat home. She feels blessed to have the opportunity. She wants to set a good example for her kids.
