Meet Monique Tharpe
Monique Tharpe is the proud mother of two children, Ramireon, 19, and Rae'Lynn, 5. Whether they're spending time at the park or enjoying a movie together, she treasures every opportunity to make memories with her family.
Monique has known about Habitat for Humanity for years after watching her aunt become a Habitat homeowner in Knoxville. As rent on her apartment continued to rise, she realized it was time to take a chance and apply herself. Looking back, she says, "It was a chance that I took." When she learned she had been accepted into the program, she was overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement.
Throughout the process, Monique has leaned on the love and encouragement of her parents and sister. She has also found support in the community she's built alongside the other future Habitat homeowners. Working together toward the dream of homeownership has been one of the most meaningful parts of her journey.
For Monique, homeownership is a "dream come true." It means stability, security, and affordability—a foundation she has long wanted for her family. Rae'Lynn is especially excited to have a yard where she can run and play, while Monique is already planning a big cookout to celebrate the day they walk through the front door of their new home.
Beyond the house itself, Monique is grateful for everything Habitat has taught her. She is excited to continue learning about budgeting and financial management, knowing those lessons will help her family for years to come. She hopes everyone who supports Habitat knows that they are doing more than building houses—they are giving families like hers the opportunity to build a brighter future together.
