Meet Melanie Vencion

For much of her childhood, Melanie Vencion never knew what it felt like to have a place to truly call home. Growing up in the foster care system, she moved from house to house, experiencing seasons of connection and separation from her family. Yet through every transition, one thing remained constant—her love for her siblings, whom she continues to stay connected with today.

Looking back on her life, Melanie simply says, "I'm a survivor—not by my hand, but God's hand."

Those words have been lived out time and time again.

The same faith that carried her through an uncertain childhood later led her to serve others on mission trips overseas. Years later, it sustained her through one of the most difficult seasons of her life, when she spent nine months in North Carolina undergoing cancer treatment. Even in moments filled with uncertainty, Melanie chose to lean on God's faithfulness rather than fear.

As housing costs continued to rise, finding a stable place to live became increasingly difficult. Through Hope House, she found more than a roof over her head—she found a community that encouraged her and reminded her she wasn't walking alone. It was there that she began pursuing another dream she had quietly carried for years: becoming a homeowner.

Today, that dream is becoming a reality through Habitat for Humanity.

For Melanie, a home isn't simply a place to live. It is a place of peace. A place where she can finally put down roots, open her doors to others, and host Bible studies where people can gather, grow in their faith, and experience the same hope that has carried her throughout her life.

When asked if she would change anything about her journey, her answer is immediate.

"I wouldn't change a thing because it has made me appreciate what I have that others may not."
