Meet Bertha Blair

Bertha Blair and her 19-year-old daughter, Aleijah, are a pair full of life, determination, and faith. Bertha has always loved to read, learn, and challenge herself to keep growing. That drive recently led her to complete her master’s degree in education, an accomplishment that reflects not only how far she has come, but where she hopes to go next. One day, she hopes to blend teaching and counseling to help families and young people discover the paths and opportunities that can help them succeed. For Bertha, continuing her own education is also about finding new ways to pour into the next generation.

Aleijah shares that same determination. Confident and hardworking, she has learned to face challenges head-on and keep moving forward. She also has a deep love for music and especially enjoys singing. Together, she and Bertha have created a life filled with encouragement, growth, and plenty of personality.

Their rental home has given them a place to grow together, but Bertha has long dreamed of something more permanent—a home that truly belongs to them. More than simply having a place of her own, she wants to create stability and build something she can one day leave to Aleijah.

For years, Aleijah held onto the belief that one day they would have a permanent home. So when Bertha learned they had been accepted into Habitat’s homeownership program, one of the most meaningful moments was being able to tell her daughter that the future she had believed in for so long was finally becoming a reality.

Throughout their journey, Bertha has leaned on her faith and the support of the friends and family who surround her. Saturday mornings often include phone calls where they pray for and encourage one another—a reminder that they are never walking alone.

As Bertha looks toward the day she and Aleijah can call their Habitat house home, she continues to trust the path that brought them here and the future still ahead.

“Everything will work out in God’s timing.”
